How do you throw a cannabis industry Purim party?

You invite everyone and tell them to dress up. On March 2, the eve of Purim, Jews in Weed took over Torches NYC for our second annual industry Purim party. Purim is the holiday that celebrates Esther and the Jews of Shushan surviving a plot to destroy them, and the tradition is to celebrate loudly: costumes, l'chaims and a story about resilience that has been told for more than two thousand years.

The room delivered. There were gold captain's hats and Mardi Gras beads, a Team Shushan jersey, an Islanders fan in full face paint, sequins in every booth and at least one guest walking around with an Ask Me Anything sign. The patterned walls and low lights of Torches made the whole night feel like a speakeasy that happened to be full of cannabis people in costume.

Who came out?

Exactly the mix we hoped for: operators, brand founders, attorneys, marketers and plenty of friends of the community. Purim is a holiday that rewards showing up, and people did.

The night also drew press. Honeysuckle covered it in Purim, community, and cannabis: Jews in Weed brings the party to Torches NYC (opens in a new tab).

Will there be a Purim party in 2027?

That is the plan. Holiday parties are announced on the events page and in the newsletter first, and every date lands on the community calendar.
